About us

The Riddet Institute was established in 2003 at Massey University, Palmerston North. It was accorded Centre of Research Excellence status in 2007 by the New Zealand government. Significant government and industry funding brings together leading researchers from around the country to expand our scientific knowledge of foods and digestive processes.

The Institute has world-class competency in the areas of biomaterials science and digestive physiology relating to nutrient absorption and metabolism.

Visions and priorities

With discovery-based research and a high level of scholarship, the Riddet Institute is a catalyst for innovation to create sustained competitive advantage for New Zealand.

Corporate publications

The Riddet Institute produces an annual report, twice yearly newsletter "Riddet Review" and has a capability and profile document available for download.

Funding

The institute is a government-funded Centre of Research Excellence, receiving half its funding from the Tertiary Education Commission.

Students

The Riddet Institute attracts high calibre students from around the world, wishing to undertake PhD study.

Our structure

The Riddet Institute brings together leading scientists from Massey University (host institution), the University of Otago, The University of Auckland, AgResearch and Plant & Food Research.

Centre of research excellence

The New Zealand Centres of Research Excellence are a formal collaborative model instituted through the Tertiary Education Commission in 2003. There are currently eight centres in New Zealand.

Science is an international collaborative activity and the Riddet Institute has strong partnerships with institutes and universities around the world.

Equipment and facilities

Through its partners the institute has access to some of the country's best facilities. In addition it has a central laboratory in Palmerston North with sophisticated scientific equipment.
