Professor Joanne Hort is the Fonterra Riddet Chair in Consumer and Sensory Science, based at Massey University. Previously at the University of Nottingham in the UK, she is a world renowned expert in sensory science whose research has focused on working closely with industry to combine sensory, consumer and analytical approaches to understand flavour perception and consumer preference. Professor Hort’s work facilitates a better understanding of how products connect with consumers at both a fundamental sensory and emotional level. ‘I’m very excited about bringing this new dimension and capability to the Riddet CoRE and look forward to developing and providing strategic leadership in this important area. Understanding consumer perception and their preferences is key to understanding food choice behaviours and informing successful product development.’
In 2019 the Riddet Institute appointed Professor Joanne Hort to a new position, Associate Director EDI, to lead our Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiative moving forward. The Riddet Institute is committed to establishing a diverse, equitable and truly inclusive organisation, which it recognises as being critical to maintaining excellence in all its activities.
