Nabil hold a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS).  After completing medical school, he went on to pursue a master’s degree in Gastroenterology from Queen Mary, University of London. He began his research career at the Wingate Institute of Neurogastroenterology, London, where he was involved in several projects that focussed on understanding the mechanisms by which gut microbes influence the enteric nervous system: ‘our little brain in the gut’.  His current research focuses on deciphering the mechanisms of the gut-brain axis, particularly the links between enteric nervous system, gut motility, and brain function. Nabil’s research is a collaborative project between AgResearch, Riddet Institute and Massey University.
