Professor Siew-Young Quek, the Director of Food Science Programme at University of Auckland, graduated with a PhD degree from School of Chemical Engineering, University of Birmingham (UK) in 1999. Her current research interests include microencapsulation of bioactives for delivery into functional foods, extraction & characterisation of bioactives/ functional ingredients from food and waste by-products, processing & food quality and food product development. She has published more than 200 journals articles and conference proceedings, 4 book chapters and delivered 21 reports for industries. She received a total of 38 research grants from government and industry, both local and overseas, in the past 10 years. She has alsoreceived numerous awards/ recognition for her research including Shanghai Outstanding Overseas Scholar (2014/15), gold medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Invention, New Technology & Products (2005) and University Invention & Research Competition in Malaysia. She is a fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology.
