Students

An energising scholastic environment

Our people are recruited from around the world, providing an international flavour and a refreshing degree of diversity in professional activities. In terms of developing and growing our talent further, the institute provides a challenging scholastic environment for PhD students and post-doctoral fellows. The Riddet Institute attracts high calibre candidates who are encouraged to think independently and become immersed in a curiosity-driven research ideology. Such an ethos permeates the institute at all levels. It is the very core of what we are.

Our students come from institutions all over the world to be part of our world-class learning environment.  We offer around 30 scholarships a year to top international and domestic students wishing to pursue PhD studies in our specialist fields. At present we have 45 PhD students working on Riddet projects and studying through Massey University, The University of Auckland, the University of Otago, Victoria University of Wellington and the University of Canterbury. The institute has an express objective of populating industry and academia with thoroughly trained bright scientists. Many of our graduates go on to top positions in industry and academia. One of our most recent graduates was hired by the Nestle Research Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Riddet Institute Student Colloquium 2012

Each year we hold a three-day student colloquium where our students from around New Zealand can gather and exchange ideas. These colloquia have proved extremely effective for creating linkages between students and their projects. A presentation is made each year to the best communicator. In 2012 the award was presented to Niranchan Paskaranandavadivel, who is studying for a PhD at the University of Auckland.
