Funding

The institute is a government-funded Centre of Research Excellence, receiving funding from the Tertiary Education Commission. It also receives revenue from research contracts for New Zealand and international food companies, other Government contracts, and university research income.

For the year ended December 2011 the institute's total income was over $8m.
